Albums of the Week (Issue #8) December 28th, 2025 -  January 3rd, 2026 1)  Ewa Demarczyk - Ewa Demarczyk śpiewa piosenki Zygmunta Koniecznego      Poezja śpiewana - 1967     Given the name of, "the Dark Angel" in her home country, Demarczyk's album remains a uniquely sounding and outlandish achievement in sung poetry. With unusual time signatures and a dangerous amount of charisma on display, this record established Demarczyk as a musical legend in Poland. 2) Japan - Tin Drum     Art Pop - 1981     Adjacent to the musical styles of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Japan takes orientalist sounds and blends them into the New Wave pop genre that was flourishing at the time. Surreal and playful, Japan's 1981 album is one of the finest records from the era of New Wave and one of which many bands have failed to imitate its style. 3) Pizzicato Five - Bossa Nova 2001     Shibuya-kei - 1993     At the height of the Shibuya-kei mo...

Albums of the Week (Issue #7) December 21st, 2025 - December 27th, 2025 1) Various Artists -  A Christmas Gift for You From Philles Records      Christmas Music - 1963      A classic Christmas record that is a must listen for anyone in a jolly mood. So much of the best Christmas covers come from this one.   2) Idrissa Soumaoro et l'Eclipse de L'I.J.A. - Ampsa: Le tioko-tioko      Mande Music - 1978     A lot of fun, groovy rock adjacent tunes in this. Perhaps the most surprising thing to me about this album is how accessible it is based on sound with its use of organs, acoustic guitar, and other western instruments. A pretty cool rare album that deserves a listen. 3) Daniel Barenboim/Frédéric Chopin - Nocturnes      Romanticism - 1982      A stellar recording of all 21 nocturnes written by Chopin. Initially panned upon their premieres, these nocturnes would eventually be praised and adored by ...

Albums of the Week (Issue #6) December 14th, 2025 - December 20th, 2025 1) Kenny Dorham - Trompeta Toccata      Hard Bop - 1965      A great series of stellar solos in Dorham's last album. The second side of this LP really shines from the groovy rhythm of "Mamacita" and the explosive energy of "The Fox." 2) Sparks - Nº1 in Heaven      Electro-Disco - 1979      A must-hear collaboration between the Father of Disco and the eccentric world of Sparks. If music had superpowers, this album would transport your body to another dimension.   3) Kylie Minogue - Impossible Princess      Art Pop - 1997      Initially panned upon release, Minogue's 1997 album is a portrait of a person diving headfirst into their own world of alienation through its otherworldly production. Dark but deeply rich in sound, this is a timeless album that was wrongly judged by many  but is now seen by pop fans, and rightful...

Albums of the Week (Issue #5) December 7th, 2025 -  December 13th, 2025 1) Barbara -  Barbara N°2        Chanson à texte - 1965        This 1965 album only features vocals, cello, piano, accordion, and saxophone. A very simple musical setup for an experience that captures the little joys and sadness in life. 2) Eno - Another Green World      Art Rock - 1975      A new art rock sound that came before Eno's collaborations with David Bowie and Talking Heads. Blending ambient pieces with some great lyrical tracks, the influence of Eno's 1975 album is a little snowball rolling down the mountain and getting larger. 3) Dog Faced Hermans - Hum of Life      Art Punk - 1993      This short but exciting piece of punk music combines different sounds from different cultures and fuses them into an original piece of musical greatness. Though the band was shortly lived, the album meshed genres ...

A great starter for people wanting to get into soul. 2) Gentle Giant -  The Power and the Glory      Progressive Rock - 1974     One of the weirder rock albums out there. An unusual sound whose melodies and structure will challenge listeners and their ability to embrace the weirdness. 3) Mylène Farmer - Ainsi soit je...      Synthpop - 1988      Breakthrough album for one of the best selling French artists of all time. Farmer's 1988 album is an atmospheric mixture of baroque and synth kinds of pop with a hint of goth. 4) The Stone Roses -  The Stone Roses      Baggy - 1989      Rest in Peace Mani. 5) Lingua Ignota -...

Albums of the Week (Issue #3) November 23rd, 2025 - November 29th, 2025 1) Nico -  Chelsea Girl      Chamber Folk - 1967     Very different from the historic 'Velvet Underground & Nico' record but still containing some of its edge. Much more reserved in style, but still a fantastic folk album nonetheless. 2) Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left      Singer-Songwriter - 1969      Some absolutely gorgeous tunes in here, especially "River Man." Nick Drake's debut album is a testament to his genius and musical beauty . 3) Charles Mingus -  Let My Children Hear Music      Third Stream - 1972      A grand, jaw-dropping epic spanning several genres and emotions! Arguably a better work than 'The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady.' 4) De La Soul -  Buhloone Mindstate      Jazz Rap - 1993      You haven't lived life until you've played "Breakadawn" as you watch ...
