Albums of the Week (Issue #12)

January 25th, 2026 - January 31st, 2026

1) Lole y Manuel - Nuevo Día

    Flamenco Nuevo - 1975

A bold, contemporary approach to flamenco. Also the rare time a flamenco song is sung in Arabic. Poetic lyricism and great control in rhythm and pacing.

2) Manuel Göttsching - Ash Ra Tempel VI: Inventions for Electric Guitar

    Progressive Electronic - 1975

A record that mainly relies on two long instrumental pieces that slowly build over time. With its building wall of noise and rhythm, Göttsching produces something glorious and hypnotic at the end of each side on this album.

3) Thanasis Papakonstantinou - Βραχνός προφήτης [Vrachnos Prophitis]

    Entechna - 2000

This album, hailing from Greece, combines Greek popular music with experimental rock, sometimes to surprising results. Keep your ears peeled for the fifth track on this album, especially for its amazing final minute.

4) Slauson Malone - A Quiet Farewell, 2016 - 2018

    Sound Collage - 2019

This album goes by at the speed of light with its petite track lengths but is an overwhelming sensory experience of different sounds and a cool practice in tone. Part chill vibes and part insanity, Malone playfully messes with the limits of music production with this genre-bending banger.

5) Meaningful Stone - 꿈에서 걸려온 전화 [A Call From My Dream]

    Indie Pop - 2020

Half singer-songwriter, half indie rock, all pop. Amazing lofi inspired production and melodies in all of these songs. Meaningful Stone's music is as beautiful as Ichiko Aoba and as exciting as the contemporary indie rock artists like beabadoobee and Wet Leg. A promising debut from the competitive music scene in South Korea.
