Its mixture of elements of glam and art rock with some light influence of punk and cabaret, Nina Hagen puts out a vocal delivery unlike any other, evocative and expressive. 2) Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Shahbaaz      Qawwali - 1991     Qawwali is defined as a form of devotional singing for Sufism, a mythical body of religious practices connecting to Islam. With catchy rhythm and raspy guitar solos, Muddy Waters and his influence on contemporary rock music can be found in his most successful album. And as a surprise, the album also includes an entire LP for a live performance with the unforgettable two-part finale, "Got My Mojo Working." 2) Claude Debussy/Maurice Ravel/Alban Berg Quartett -  Quatuors à cordes      Impressionism - 1986      Two string quartets written by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel highlight the impressionism movement that existed in classical music. Albums of the Week (Issue #19) March 15th, 2026 - March 21st, 2026 1) Gustav Mahler/The Philharmonia Orchestra/Otto Klemperer - Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection"      Romanticism - 1963      A stellar recording of one of the greatest symphonies in music. Conducted by the great Otto Klemperer, this recording of the Resurrection Symphony explores the complex feelings of death and the existential questions of living that Mahler asks of his listeners. From the most dramatic sounds of despair, Mahler's grand symphony moves mountains with one of the most expressive, overwhelming endings in all periods of music. 2) Elis Regina - Elis      MPB - 1977      An amazing record by one of Brazil's finest. Though her career was tragically cut short 5 years later, this album among many others have withstood the test of time and have become well adored classics in Brazilian culture. Albums of the Week (Issue #18) March 8th, 2026 - March 14th, 2026  1) The Horace Silver Quintet - Finger Poppin' With the Horace Silver Quintet      Hard Bop - 1959      Helping to pioneer the bebop sound in the 1950s, this album finds Horace Silver and his lineup at their richest in sound. From exciting rhythms to its amazing band chemistry, this is one of the many masterpieces that defines the legacy of Blue Note Records and shows jazz music at the height of its popularity. 2) Strictly Ballroom - Hide Here Forever      Midwest Emo - 1997      This would be the only album that this LA underground hardcore/emo band would make before disbanding in 1999.  Though not a particularly groundbreaking album of the Midwest Emo sound, it is a rare gem of greatness that is both sonically beautiful as it is raw and grating in emotion. 3) Susumu Yokota - Sakura      Ambient - 2000      This ambient al...

Despite its unusual time signatures and unpredictable direction, the band shows absolute skill, handling musical complexity with impressive results. 2) Meredith Monk -  Dolmen Music      Chamber Music - 1981      From the multi-disciplinary career of Meredith Monk, her 1981 album is a fine record from start to finish.      Goodnight to the amazing Willie Colón, who popularized salsa music. His music has indirectly inspired me to make this account. This is my first non-issue post so I hope people understand that this is more of a personal kind of story I'm offering and one that I want to share with the people.      I was first introduced to his songs, “Oh Qué Será?” and “Cua Cua Ra, Cua Ra,” when I first heard Geordie Greep and his band cover this song back in 2025 (In my first concert). I remember listening to these songs for the first time and being mesmerized by the energy and mood of Colon’s music, even in a language I have never heard of.      His music, alongside the handful of other albums I was listening to, made me realize that there is amazing music to be found in other genres or countries or groups underrepresented in my music tastes as well as popular culture.      Without him, this blog wouldn’t have been made, and my relationshi...
